ELMWOOD - design development

In order to start the development process of the icons, I used primary and secondary images as a
reference point. These images were then broken down into the simplest form to create linear illustrations. I started off with a small selection of icons, which were then repeated. During this stage, I developed more icons that would fit snuggly into the blank spaces. The brand name ‘Shift It’ implies a friendly service that is capable of getting the job done, with the tag line strengthening the light hearted tone of voice.

The branding and illustration has been applied to print based products, such as business cards and flyers, building a welcome and approachable brand. These items are necessary for a  business of this type in order to build up a strong customer base and to help promote their services, in order to strengthen brand loyalty. White space has been used to ‘shift’ areas of the illustration out the way which focuses on the company aim of their ability to remove any object or item. as well as helping to break up a busy print.

The company branding can be carried across a large range of different products. This means that Shit It will be recognised over a number of locations, leaving a lasting impression. Colour and image has been applied to appropriate products, such as vehicles and packing equipment, building up a stronger identity, making them stand out and become recognisable. The introduction of ID tags creates a much more personal service, which reinforces trust between the company and the customer. This is necessary as the service being provided by Shift It requires the workers to be both reliable and safe when handling the customer’s belongings.
