I am pretty much horrendous when it comes to working with type and layout, therefore the design context publication seemed like a very daunting task in terms of the body copy and written content. I initially attempted to explore some rather shocking layouts without attempting to gather any inspiration. They therefore ended up looking like this...
It was obvious from these attempts that I needed a little help. Sometimes I just need to see that one thing that will help guide me in the right direction. Strangely enough, it came in the form of a publication about Cockatoos by Brandon Nickerson.
I have circled on the images the piece of text that caught my eye in terms of how I could work with my existing layout. Using this simply as a starting point, I began to explore possible typefaces. I looked at a range of sans serif possibilities as I felt that they would work best alongside my chosen images. My images are quite fun, bright and contemporary, therefore a sans serif type would be the most complimentary.
