CATH KIDSTON - illustration inspo

Alice Ferrow

Alice Ferrow's illustrations are beautifully hand crafted using paints and watercolours. The colours used are extremely eye catching and complimentary, creating unique visuals. She explores some really interesting topics within her work, showing how you can steer clear of the usual and expected. Cath Kidston's prints also take on quite a hand crafted approach, with no outline and a build up of colour.

Katt Frank

Katt Frank's above illustrations work with a lot of detail and limited colour, following a similar theme to the one I wish to explore - garden, countryside, nature, plants, vegetables. It is beneficial to gather some visuals in terms of what colour comes under this category in terms of objects.

Clare Owen

These illustrations caught my eye as they are created without a stroke, similar to Cath Kidston prints. I wanted to explore how this would work in terms of creating detail and so on. Colour has been used to split up the different sections, and extra detail has been added whenever necessary.

The above illustrations create a really interesting printed effect through the use of colour and texture, as well as overlay. The bright colours beautifully contrast with the white background, with each individual object being effectively placed to build up a structured design.
